TodaysArt for contemporary visual arts and performing arts takes place at the Hague in Holland from September 25th to October 5th. The Japan Media Arts Festival is sending Norimichi Hirakawa, winner of the Excellence Award at the 8th Japan Media Arts Festival in 2004, to the festival and cooperating there with the exhibition of his latest work, a versions (26 unknowns). There will also be screenings of award-winning works from the Japan Media Arts Festival.

The TodaysArt festival of Art, Music and Technology was born in the Hague in 2002 and this year is being held for the tenth time. There have been satellite events from the start, in such cities as Brussels and Moscow, and at the end of November this year it comes to Tokyo as well. The Japan Media Arts Festival is joint organizer of the Tokyo event, TodaysArt.JP editionZERO and, prior to that, will dispatch Norimichi Hirakawa, winner of the Excellence Award at the 8th Japan Media Arts Festival, to the event in Holland. In addition to the first overseas exhibition of Hirakawa’s a versions (26 unknowns), 13 award-winning works from the Japan Media Arts Festivals from recent years will also be screened in a program called, Beyond the Technology.

Norimichi Hirakawa
Born in 1982, Hirakawa’s oeuvre of mainly computer-controlled, real-time sound and video installations has been presented at art museums and media arts festivals in both Japan and abroad. Winner of the Excellence Award at the 8th Japan Media Arts Festival, his many other awards includethe Award of Distinction at Prix Ars Electronica in 2008. His wide-ranging activity has included participation in the production of Ryoji Ikeda’s Concert Piece, collaborations with Yoshihide Otomo, Yuki Kimura and Benedict Drew, participation in the Lexus Art Exhibition at Milan Design week, and live performance as Typingmonkeys.
