This is a music video for the song Remember me by Quruli, produced by HASHIJI Misuzu and CHIMASKI. It animates the life of a girl through a series of pictures drawn by pencil on a white piece of paper, which are then erased, with new pictures drawn over the top while traces of the previous ones are still visible. The story uses the familiar material of eraser shavings and unfolds in accord with the world of the music.

rain town

ISHIDA Hiroyasu (Japan)

Animation Division 2011 New Face Award 9 min. 55 sec.
Animated short film

Some time ago, the rain began to fall incessantly, and the citizens left rain town, headed for the suburbs and higher ground. A young girl strays deep into "rain town," which has been completely abandoned and fallen into ruins. There she meets a lonely robot, who remembers the town as it used to be. This is a work that uses only tranquil music and the sound of falling rain to gently depict scenes of a rather dark, yet beautiful world that makes one feel a certain sense of loneliness and nostalgia.

An animation created using a toy that draws pictures with magnets, the kind of thing most of us have tried in childhood. The House of Small Cubes

KATO Kunio (Japan)

Animation Division 2008 Grand Prize 12 min. 4 sec.
Animated short film

An old man lives in a room that resembles a pile of stacked up wooden blocks surrounded by water. He drops his pipe in the submerged lower floor. When he dives to pick it up, he encounters memories of his family carved in each room. The precious memories of the people he used to know, including his absent wife and daughter, are depicted with a gentle touch, making this a fine and moving piece of work. The theme of global warming is also hidden just below the surface.
