Architectural Informatics Society

​​The Architectural Informatics Society (AIS) was established in 2020 with the common starting point of reconstructing the concept of architecture as a consciousness in which human beings continue to create, construct and utilize artificial environments from an informatics perspective, based on the fundamental impact of the development and penetration of information technology in contemporary society.


As a platform where diverse and advanced theories, technologies and industries intersect, AIS promotes the dissemination and development of technologies and knowledge through the sharing and dissemination of information on the latest innovations, cross-industry and cross-disciplinary exchanges and human resource development, while looking at the evolution of the positioning of architecture itself as a more fundamental consciousness and broader concept, rather than the superficial application of informatics to the field of architecture.

2017

A special feature article, Kenchiku-johougaku-e [Towards Architectural Informatics], in 6 installments, with contributions and conversations by volunteer members, was published on the “10＋1 website” (operated by LIXIL). How should architectural studies be questioned in accelerating informatization? This article presents the challenges of architectural informatics from the multifaceted perspectives of researchers, design firms, general contractors and programmers.

Architectural Informatics Society Conferences were held for the public six times from March 2018–February 2019. A series of articles documenting the conferences was published on the 10＋1 website.

2020

Five online events were launched to celebrate the birth of the Society, including an inaugural meeting (Nov. 30–Dec. 16).

The book Kenchiku-jouhougaku-e [Towards Architectural Informatics] (millegraph), supervised by the Society for Architectural Informatics, was published on Dec. 25.

Director’s comment

​​Architecture is the wisdom of mankind that brought lifestyle freedom. And information technology has developed rapidly in the past half century. It is inevitable that the fusion of these two types of knowledge will lead to a transformative movement. Architecture has honed spatial design from a human-centered perspective in physical space constrained by gravity and time. By integrating the knowledge of informatics, the space of the future will be redefined as a space for human activity while incorporating information in real time. It will be a new membrane that envelops people environmentally. I look forward to the day when the “primitive hut” of our time will be reborn from this new platform of knowledge where practitioners in the fields of architecture and informatics gather. ​​The AIS is a cross-disciplinary community for open discussion, information collection, analysis, accumulation and dissemination, and a human resource and development exchange, with the aim of updating concepts related to information, architecture and urbanism, and to sharing and systematizing knowledge. Starting with an exchange of opinions by volunteer members in 2017, AIS was established in November 2020 after discussions with practitioners and researchers from various fields. The organization is comprised of architects, engineers, students and members from various fields who are active at the forefront of academia and industry. The first publication, Kenchiku-jouhougaku-e [Towards Architectural Informatics] (supervised by AIS, millegraph) was released in 2020.
