KOIZUMI Meiro is an artist who explores the relationship between the individual and the state/community, and between the human body and emotions through experimental videos and performances that interweave reality and fiction. His work examines the mechanisms that give rise to feelings of violence and self-sacrifice and allows viewers to relive the emotions of those involved. At Aichi Triennale 2019, he performed a theatrical piece using VR technology, which drew great attention from the art and theater worlds.
At Garden TOKYO, the VR work Prometheus Unbound will be presented for Ars Electronica 2021 Garden TOKYO as a bespoke version for a limited period. The video documentation of his previous work, the full-scale VR theater piece Prometheus Bound, which won the Grand Prize in the Art Division of the 24th Japan Media Arts Festival, will also be presented.

SAKUMA Kaito is a sound artist working in a variety of fields, from digital media to real space. With the theme of “raw existence,” he creates sound spaces that aim to expand cognition. In recent years, he has been creating sound sculptures using mirrored surfaces as motifs, and his sound installation Ether, created in 2020, in which mirrored surfaces vibrate in synchronization with the viewer's heartbeat to create sound on the spot, won the New Face Award in the Art Division of the 24th Japan Media Arts Festival. In this exhibition, he will show the award-winning work and a new work in the series, KEHAI: Liquid Mirror Series - Square -, in which we can feel an invisible “presence.”
Today, not only people in the art world, but also in many other fields, listen to audio information via earphones or speakers. In contrast to this trend, the artist explores the materiality of sound.

Chosho Hakkei in Rittor Base - HPL ver, which won a Prix Ars Electronica 2021 Digital Musics & Sound Art Honorary Mention, is an 8.1.2-ch spatial audio work presented at Ochanomizu Rittor Base in 2020. It was then released as a stereophonic streaming/downloadable sound source using the binaural technology called HPL. evala will perform the work using the 3D sound system and high-definition video system at Rittor Base.

Sound artist evala explores sound design not only in the sense of composing music along the time axis, but also spatially. In recent years, he has continued to present a number of distinguished works that no one has experienced before, as his spatial view of the musical world leads to the evolution of innovative sound technology and methods. In the talk session, evala will reveal his interpretation of technology and talk about the development of new expressions of sound with KUBO Jiro, a master of spatial acoustic technology, as we review evala’s works from the past through his latest award-winning creations, Chosho Hakkei, Invisible Cinema Sea, See, She - To you, who is yet to come, Synesthesia X1-2.44, Touch that Sound and Acoustic Vessel Odyssey.

To have one’s own role and to continue to participate in society—this is the reason for one’s existence and the meaning of life that everyone wishes for. YOSHIFUJI Ory developed OriHime, an avatar robot based on his own experience as a teenager, to resolve solitude as the theme of his life, and developed a series of prototypes to meet the motivations of users. This has brought a social body and an opportunity to work in a café to ALS patients and people who have limited mobility. YOSHIFUJI, who describes himself as a robot communicator rather than a researcher, and the OriHime pilot NAGAHIRO Masato will discuss solitude, bonds and how the world can be changed in this talk session.
