Screening and Special Talk at LUCCA COMICS AND GAMES 2013

Japan Media Arts Festival will host a talk show and screening of seven works with the focus on award-winners in the Animation Division of the 16th Japan Media Arts Festival at Lucca Comics and Games, Europe’s oldest comic festival.

Lucca Comics and Games was launched in 1966 and is held each year from late October into early November in the walled city of Lucca not far from Pisa. *The festival is organized around the six thematic categories of Comics, Games, Junior, Music & Cosplay, Japan Palace and Movie, and various events are held. 320,000 people visited during the four-day term in 2012. *Official LCG website: http://www.luccacomicsandgames.com/it/2013/home/

Speaker: Yoot Saito (Game designer / Juror for the Entertainment Division of the 13th-15th Japan Media Arts Festivals.

Yoot Saito won the Excellence Prize for Seaman – The Forbidden Pets in the Digital Art (Interactive) Division of the 3rd Japan Media Arts Festival and served as a juror for the Entertainment Division of the 13th-15th Japan Media Arts Festivals. He continues to originate a series of imaginative games as a game creator and SimTower, the international version of his simulation game, The Tower, has won high accolades abroad.
How far can the know-how accumulated in developing commercial games for the home etc. be applied to the world of smart phone games? He refers to examples involving Japanese game creators in his presentation.

SimTower, a simulation game modeled on high-rise buildings and elevators, became a global hit in 1995, winning the Codies Prize (The Best Strategy Game of the Year award from U.S. publishers), Best Game award of MacLife magazine and other prizes around the world. 
SEAMAN – The Forbidden Pets, a SEGA game for Dreamcast featuring sound recognition technology and the raising of talking fish, became the biggest ever Dreamcast hit in Japan and an extraordinary sensation in this country in 1999, winning awards at the Japan Media Arts Festival etc. 
In 2003, the Odama game for the Nintendo Game Cube went on global release.
In 2012, there was the airport freight sorting game, AeroPorter, from LEVEL5 for NintendoDS.
Earthbook, the global territorial change simulation App. for iPad on a 3D global platform, went on sale in August, 2013.
Also known for the proposal after the announcement of Nintendo’s Wii controller to build in speakers for a new interface.
