YOSHIOKA Hiroshi, Professor of Aesthetics and Art Theory, Kyoto University, a specialist in aesthetics and art theory, is to present the keynote lecture at the Cyber Culture & New Media Art symposium in Spain’s 5th MADATAC - INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF CONTEMPORARY AUDIO-VISUAL & NEW MEDIA ART. 
There will also screenings focused on Award-winning works from the 16th Japan Media Arts Festival.

MADATAC, the Contemporary Festival of New Media Arts and Advanced Audiovisual Technologies, is held in the Spanish capital, Madrid, in December each year. The contemporary art festival of the media and video arts and experimental new media takes place for the fifth time this year. The festival is managed by an independent and non-profit organization and produced as a venue for promoting the exchange of knowledge between professionals scholars, artists, curators, collectors and other professionals. The festival includes video art screenings, conventions, installations, talks by artists and scholars, workshops and performances.

The festival’s Cyber Culture & New Media Art symposium featured talks and discussions by seven artists and scholars from around the world on the theme, Transmorph Realities: The Abdication of the Visual Real. Japan Media Arts Festival arranged for Professor YOSHIOKA Hiroshi of the Kyoto University Graduate School of Letters, a specialist in aesthetics and art theory, to present the keynote lecture at this symposium. Professor YOSHIOKA’s talk was titled, Playing with Identities: Media Arts Open the Door to Parallel Realities. He spoke with reference to award-winning works of recent years at  Japan Media Arts Festival about the potential of media arts in the transformation of Japanese cultural identity.

PROFILE
YOSHIOKA Hiroshi was born in Kyoto, in 1956. He studied philosophy and aesthetics at Kyoto University. He teaches aesthetics and art theory at the Faculty and Graduate School of Letters, Kyoto University. He was the editor in chief of the journal Diatxt. (vol.1-8), and the general director of "Kyoto Biennale 2003" and "Ogaki Biennale 2006." He is the author of Shiso no genzaikei: Fukuzatsukei, dennokukan, afodansu (The Present Tense of Thought: Complex Systems, Cyberspace, and Affordance Theory, Kodansha, 1997), Joho to seimei: No, kompyuta, uchu (Information and Life: The Brain, Computers, and the Universe, with Hisashi Muroi, Shin’yosha, 1993), and many essays and articles on philosophy, art and media culture. He has been the chair for International Convention of Manga, Animation, Game and Media Arts, 2011-2013, organized by Agency of Cultural Affairs, Japan.

Japan Media Arts Festival 2013 – Video Program (120min.) – 
The program of 18 works focuses on diverse video works from among the award-winners and jury recommendations in the Art, Entertainment and Animation Divisions of Japan Media Arts Festival 2013, including short animations, video art and music videos, and also introducing some outstanding projects.
