ARS ELECTRONICA 2015
This global media festival takes place annually in the Austrian city of Linz. Conceived as a festival of art, technology and society, it was first held in 1979 and this year’s event will be the 34th in the series. Each festival is organized on a timely theme and many artists, scientists, engineers, theoreticians and journalists come for it from around the world.
The theme for 2015 is POST CITY – Habitats for the 21st Century. The city, it would appear, is humankind’s most successful survival strategy, and still our greatest social experiment. The Digital Revolution has imparted a new dimension to this experiment. In Post City, a variety of exhibitions, symposiums, workshops and other projects will be held with an 80,000㎡ former post and packing distribution center as its main venue.
Exhibition
Noramoji Project, SHIMOHAMA Rintaro / NISHIMURA Naoki / WAKAOKA Shinya (Entertainment Division Excellence Award of 18th Japan Media Arts Festival)
The Japan Media Arts Festival will introduce the Noramoji Project on this Post City theme. The project consists of the discovery of highly individual fonts (“noramoji”) while walking around Japanese towns, rediscovering their appeal with the focus on their design, analysis of the shapes of the characters and their reconstruction.
Connecting ARS Electronica and Japanese Shops
During the Ars Electronica Festival, the Noramoji Project is linking Ars Electronica with Japanese shops. T-shirts featuring letters inspired by the store signs will be on display. Visitors can get these inexpensively priced items. Part of the proceeds will be donated to the original stores in Japan. The Noramoji Project will establish a donation cycle.

The Internet Yami-Ichi* (Internet Black Market) is a flea market which deals "Internet-ish" things, face-to-face, in actual space. Both flea markets and the Internet are fanatical and chaotic mixtures of the amazing and useless.
Following Tokyo, Berlin, Sapporo, Brussels and Amsterdam, it is coming to Linz as well!
The Noramoji Project will also participate in the Internet Black Market.
