The Screening Program is centered around 24th Japan Media Arts Festival award winners that give a feel for the new possibilities animation has to offer, plus Japan’s unique animation methods.
Animation has flown off the screen and onto a range of new platforms like VR and 360-degree films. This program introduces new VR experiences from Japan.
This program features online sessions including a panel discussion with directors of the world’s three largest animation festivals, workshops for animation students, and multiple talks centered around the theme of “Expanded Animation.”
The Covid-19 pandemic forced a huge number of festivals online in 2020. Is the online form temporary, or will it continue even post-pandemic? Meanwhile, changes in modern art and platforms are contributing to the spread of animation, and leading to its integration into other forms such as games. How should animation festivals evolve in response to these changes? The directors of three major international animation festivals and the director of the Japan Media Arts Festival Overseas Promotion will explore those issues in this panel discussion.
During the 2019 Annecy Festival, we held our first Animation Bootcamp in Europe at Les Papeteries. This year, we are taking the workshop online for those of you who want to express art in the form of drawings.
